Wondering why you might need a dry chemical or dry powder fire extinguisher? As one of the most commonly relied upon fire extinguishers in Australia, our dry chemical powder fire extinguishers are the most versatile on the market for their ability to be able to tackle a wide range of fires as effectively as possible, as well as their economically affordable cost to purchase.
Our dry chemical powder fire extinguishers are an extremely effective and versatile extinguisher and can be used across an array of ABE and BE fire types.
ABE Type:-
BE Type:-
Both types of our ABE and BE dry chemical powder fire extinguishers can be used on flammable gas fires, however we recommend evaluating the situation and the fire carefully before using them in this scenario. This is because the burning gas eliminates the gas, whereas if the fire is extinguished, the gas can continue to leak, build up and potentially become a bomb, causing much more damage if ignition is triggered.
Our dry chemical fire extinguisher works by removing one or more elements of the fire triangle – either the heat, fuel and/or the oxygen. In most ABE fire extinguishers, the dry chemical powder use is called monoammonium phosphate. This powder has the ability to melt and flow once heated which allows it to coat the fuel and extinguish the fire especially class A and E fires. However, with class B fires, the monoammonium phosphate powder completely smothers the surface of the fire and stops the fuel (vapour) escaping – which extinguishers the fire straight away.
BE type dry chemical powder extinguishers differ in that they do not melt onto the fuel surface and are therefore ineffective against class A fires giving them a BE rating.
