Installation of signage is included for free when fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fire hose reels purchased from us are installed by one of our trained technicians. Our fire extinguishers, fire blankets and our fire hose reels are all supplied with the correct signage. For more information, visit our installation & pricing page.

There are a huge variety of signs available all of which can be mounted using the same method. We will cover a few important signs that have specific mounting requirements according to AS2444.

Mounting methods

All signs can be mounted using the following methods:-

Double sided tape – fast, clean and easy. Wall must be in good order with no flaking or blistered paint.

Glue / silicon sealant – cheap and easy – fixes well to walls even in poor condition including outdoor walls.

Screw fixings – rarely used – washers must be used to prevent the screw head from penetrating the sign.

Location signs

Location signs are used to identify the location of a variety of fire equipment; these include, but are not limited to, fire extinguishers, fire blankets, fire hose reels, first aid signs and fire points.

According to AS2444 all location signs must be mounted as follows:-

The bottom of the sign must be at least 2000mm from floor level or be mounted at a height that is clearly visible to a person of average height and visual acuity approaching the fire equipment directly.

Where fire equipment is located in a corridor or in a recess a double sided angled sign may be used. The mounting height is as above.

Location signs shall be mounted directly above the fire equipment at the height stated.

Fire extinguisher identification signs

The ID sign should be located directly above the fire extinguisher at a height that is less than the location sign.

Considerations

Careful consideration needs to be given to the following

  • Type of wall the sign is being mounted to
  • The amount of traffic the installation location is subject to (this can help to prevent accidental damage and vandalism)
  • Potential for damage to occur to the sign in its installed location (eg wind prone areas)
  • Consideration of the surrounding environment and the sign materials (eg dirty areas can make signs illegible)

If you are unsure about location, type or have any questions do not hesitate to contact us and ask us for advice.
